Blog about Job Searching

Job searching.

If you are in need of a job, there is a full process to follow to have the best chance at landing that job.

First thing you want to do is put a good resume together.  Currently most, people use a template.  You could even try printing your resume from indeed.com.  On indeed.com you can print your resume in already done up professional format.  I have found that employers accept it that way also.  Whatever works for you.

Having a professional resume neatly typed with as much accurate and correct information (correct dates) is especially important.  Try to leave the first 10 years of your experience on the resume.  If you are just starting out then you will want to talk about your schooling or experience with volunteering, etc. The more you put on your resume the better.  Once you have your resume in place, the next step is to research the companies you would like to work for.

Employers have always suggested that I know about their company and their mission statement and what they do before applying or going on the interview.  Once you have researched the company and feel it is a fit for you then apply.  It is important to have a cover letter to upload on the website or to present when applying.  A cover letter tells the company why you would like to work for them and a summary of your qualifications.

If you land the interview, then it is important to have proper dress attire.  Today things are a lot more relaxed as far as dress code, but it is important to have the proper outfit to wear.  To dress up men should wear slacks and a dress shirt with a tie.  Women should wear a nice pair of slacks or skirt with a nice blouse.  Usually, the best colors to wear are black and navy blue.  When dressing up for a managerial position a suit would fit to wear.  When going on the interview it is important to be on time and have a working knowledge about the company.  After the interview is over one should get a business card and send a thank you letter.

Following up after an interview is important too.  You put your name back in the person’s mind again when calling to follow up.  You should wait a week or two to follow up.

Dealing with Anxiety and Stress

Dealing with Anxiety and Stress It’s a Monday.  Just finally had a chance to rest from work and the kids and now back to the grind.  It is snowing and your late for work.  The dreaded march of doom when you walk into work and hour late.  You get the stares.   How about crossing over the big bridge in your car.  A simple car ride and you dread having to go over the highway bridge.  Something most people take for granted, but you are a ball of nerves when you approach the exit.  You start hyperventilating that you won’t make it over.  I am not even going to go into the dreadful thoughts that come into mind. It is the big test day and you are getting graded on a group project as well.  Mr. MacArthur holds the key to completing the class.  You have to stand up in front of everyone and complete a speech on the 1500’s.  Your palms are sweaty, knees weak, mom’s spaghetti.  What to do, What to do.  You obsess over...
